hat Is PCOS?
Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a hormone disorder that affects 1 in 10 women. It is most common in women between 18 – 35 years of age.
Wikipedia explains that Polycystic ovary syndrome is characterized by an elevation of male hormones (androgens) and infrequent or absent ovulation.
What’s The One Thing That Can Change Everything?
As a therapist, I always look for the root cause of any issue either physically, mentally or emotionally. We cannot fix what we don’t understand, especially those deep rooted emotional blockages.
Now Let’s Have a Look at Spiritual/Emotional Meaning of PCOS:
♦ Resistance to femininity in a patriarchal world;
♦ Unconscious feeling of not being enough as a female or a fear of being a female
♦ An overdeveloped sense of being personally responsible and accountable for the welfare of those around you.
♦ It may feel like you have to run the whole show with inadequate personal resources. You may have feelings such as: a lack of confidence, the need for approval, believing you are not good enough and not feeling worthy.
You might have these feelings because you felt responsible and accountable at an early age, exactly at which you were not mentally and emotionally developed enough to cope.
Particularly playing a masculine role as you may have been or felt that you were relied on to deal with very stressful emotional situations. You may have witnessed your mother being helpless in her life, through her ill health or relationship issues. Then connecting deeply to your sexuality seems to be a challenge because you feel more comfortable in the masculine role. This shows up in your behaviors and actions in life.
Definitely, the feminine identity has been distorted as you may have witnessed women being poorly treated or belittled at an early age or perhaps you yourself might have been sexually abused either you consciously remember or not. Causing you to run away from your femininity as you felt safe hiding behind your masculine energy.
What Are The Main Physical Symptoms of PCOS?
♦ Irregular periods or no periods at all or occasional heavy painful periods;
♦ Difficulty in getting pregnant;
♦ Ovarian cysts;
♦ Excessive hair growth (usually on the face, back, chest and buttocks);
♦ Weight gain;
♦ Acne and/or oily skin;
♦ Lower back pain;
♦ Mood Swings;
♦ Sleep problems;
♦ Hair Fall;
♦ Depression;
♦ Fatigue.
According to Louise Hay, author of “You Can Heal Your Life”, ovarian cysts represent some sort of past hurt that we can’t let go of. Crying, journaling and identifying repressed emotions can help remove these energetic blockages.
About PCOS & Creativity:
If a female of childbearing age doesn’t go through the creative process of ovulating regularly, we might ask if she is perhaps also suppressing her creativity on a mental emotional level. Did she give up on pursuing her dream career, being it acting or in art etc.? Did she stop singing after losing a loved one? Is she stuck in an office job she hates? Or… fill in the blanks.
∗ All of my female clients who were diagnosed with PCOS admitted to having suppressed their creativity in one form or another.
By reintroducing a creative activity in their lives, has made a huge difference in their sense of well being and happiness!
Being creative is being human. If you feel that you aren’t creative in any way… you are suppressing being a human.
∗ Yes, not all of us are artists. However, we are all made to be creative. Even if you don’t consider yourself to be artistic, there are always ways to be creative, to be the original YOU. You just have to accept it, discover it and embrace it – express your true self!
About PCOS & Femininity:
When you have imbalances or stop ovulating, a big part of your femininity is missing that might lead to infertility.
∗ Of all the PCOS cases I have supported, the ladies and I were able to identify moments that lead them to deny a part of their femininity. Some were embarrassed about their early development of breasts or maybe they felt negative sexual attention or sexual harassment or maybe a massive argument with a parent…
∗ Then puberty kicked in with new hormones, but the ovaries refused to ovulate. Plus teenage sugar and carb cravings causing sugar balance issues that might lead to insulin resistance and you have the perfect storm. Many of my clients with PCOS started prediabetes medication at an early age to manage their symptoms.
Be aware of the contraceptive pill or hormones for acne that can further distort the balance leading to PCOS diagnosis.
∗ But there is hope if we go to the root cause! Don’t Despair.
What Are The Emotional Causes?
Female Issues often Stem from a Feeling of Not Being Good Enough. Not feeling good enough is just one feeling/subconscious belief that almost everyone experiences in some ways. Here are some other common mental and emotional feelings that affect female health issues.
♦ Feeling being abandoned (underlying);
♦ Feeling unwanted;
♦ Feeling not good (smart/beautiful/lovable) enough;
♦ Having no confidence;
♦ Feeling I don’t deserve (love/success/money);
♦ Believing boys are better than girls;
♦Believing I don’t deserve to receive;
♦ Feeling I don’t belong;
♦ Feeling like I am an imposter when I am doing well.
Let’s Look Deeper Into The Ancestral Connection:
I often find that another cause of PCOS can found within the family dynamic at an early age. Being place in a parental role from early on in life, where you were depend upon to be mother and father.
And this can often be traced back through your ancestry too. Many of my clients report both mother and daughter were diagnos with PCOS. Also there seems to be running in the family line.
Addressing The Root of PCOS:
If you want to start healing from the emotional root of your PCOS, here are Three important things to ask yourself:
♦ What emotional experience I had preceding the PCOS diagnosis or the first symptoms of PCOS. Is healing needed there? If yes, where could I start?
♦ Think about how you feel your femininity, how you view it. Do I like my body? Do I feel like a woman (pay more attention to your usual behaviors and actions)? If not, what practical thing could I do today to appreciate my femininity more?
♦ What creative activity have I neglected or do I miss in my life that is distinctly ME? Am I willing to commit to incorporating it in my schedule?
It’s guarantee that just answering these questions for yourself and perhaps journaling about them, you will start on a healing journey you might have never imagined before!
∗ It does take a multi-level approach. Recognizing that PCOS could be accompanied by emotional challenges such as anxiety, depression, and low self-esteem. I’m commit to providing a supportive and nurturing environment through the most effective way – what I call the “Whole Approach Healing” to address these imbalances.
Through a combination of therapies, healing modalities, including counseling, mindfulness practices, Rapid transformational therapy, Access Consciousness Bars & Clearing, Emotional Code Clearing, Energy Healing, Qigong and so much more.
∗ My aim is to empower individuals to overcome emotional obstacles and support them to live a true life of expression whatever it takes.
Of course other things like having a fresh healthy diet, the right amount of exercise, and getting good quality sleep are also important. It may require a combination of lifestyle changes.
